Carrot harvesting commenced in May,
with good weather conditions producing excellent quality carrots. Yields are on
track, and long range forecasting predicts a dry Winter for ideal harvesting
through to August.
Wattie’s were fortunate with weather
conditions to be able to harvest green beans well into April, with temperatures
consistently above the 30-year average. Yields were slightly below average,
with quality good. Very strong demand for green beans means customer
allocations are tight.
Wattie’s had a very successful corn
harvest, with very high yields and excellent quality. In particular the corn
colour and flavour is exceptional.
Favourable climatic conditions,
advancements in cultivar selection and improvements in crop management resulted
in an outstanding 2007 season for peas. Wattie’s harvested over the longest
season ever in the largest ever planting area, producing record volumes without
compromising quality. Planning for the 2008 season has commenced, with planting
due to start in July.
